Who are we? Really!  Just who is the “average woman”? Well, I prefer to
think of us as “above average women”! As a magazine editor and television
presenter, I get this question all the time. Well, according to recent reports
in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Time magazine, and other prestigious
publications, the average woman in the U.S.A. is a “baby boomer”, size 14,
5’4” tall, and controls about 75% of our nation’s wealth. Hmmmm, I don’t
see much information, images, and editorial reporting out there that targets
that woman, do you?
A few years ago, I felt burnt out as an editor and burned as a consumer because
most of the information and images I was seeing in the women’s glossies just
didn’t speak to me—or most of my friends. It hit me when I was 35 and quite
frankly, it hasn’t gotten much better since (I’m a proud 44 year old baby
boomer now). I still love to read Vogue and other glossies and fantasize about
wearing $3000 size 4 trousers and looking like I’m 17 again. And then I snap
out of it and realize that I can’t afford to wear Dior head-to-toe everyday.
In the magazine biz, that’s called “aspirational editorial”—living
vicariously through the pages. I think we can strike a balance and still be
“aspirational” while inspirational at the same time.
So, I have taken action and launched ceslie.com. This Web site may be called
“ceslie” but, it’s not about me…it’s about YOU! I’m the
editor-in-chief and it’s my job to bring you the latest and greatest in
products, news, and services in a very authentic straightforward way that can
(and will!) better your life. This is my dream magazine site. I hope it will
become the go-to destination for women age 40+ who want how-to and
behind-the-scenes previews from leading experts in the areas of fashion, beauty,
travel, food, entertaining, health, fitness, music, women’s issues, and more!
Over the years as an editor, I have accumulated a lot of experts in my life! A
LOT! So, I’ve gotten them on board to bring you the goods. Think of ceslie.com
as sort of a revolving cast of experts that you can check in on, and, if you
sign up for our newsletters and newsflashes, we will check in with you too.  I
hope this site will grow and improve; however, I need your help to make it
really service our needs. Please email me with any questions, suggestions, and
also products and services you just love. Also let me know about interesting and
authentic women in your community who are really outstanding because our goal is
to applaud and publicize women who have momentum in their lives! After all, we
really ARE in control!
