Shelley Lewis
A graduate of NYU School of Film and Television, Shelley Lewis began her career as a newswriter for NBC Radio network. During her ten years in radio she was a reporter, producer, film critic and sports commentator for WNBC AM. Her first management position was as News Director for what was then NBC's number one ranked young adult network, "The Source" She also executive produced political conventions and election coverage.
In 1985, she moved to television, first as General Manager of NBC News' Affiliate News Service, and then as Senior Producer of "Main Street" a news magazine show for teenagers. In 1989 she became the first woman to be executive producer of a daily news program when she took over NBC News at Sunrise. She later became Senior Producer of Real Life with Jane Pauley. In 1992, Shelley went to ABC News, where she was senior producer, and then executive producer, of World News Now with Aaron Brown and Lisa McRee. Over the next ten years, she held a variety of positions, including producer of a number of prime time specials for John Stossel and others, before becoming Executive Producer of Good Morning America in 1997. She also developed and launched a number of ABC News programs for other entities, including a daily news program for Lifetime Television in 2000, and a series called "She-TV" for Discovery Health Channel. In 2001, she joined CNN to launch Greenfield at Large, hosted by Jeff Greenfield, and in 2002, became executive producer of American Morning with Paula Zahn.
In 2003, Shelley Lewis was offered the opportunity to help create and launch America's first liberal talk radio network, Air America Radio. She became senior vice president of programming, and continues to oversee editorial content and supervise the production and news staffs.
In 2006, she wrote her first book, "Naked Republicans" (Random House) which is a satirical "voter's guide" to a rogue's gallery of right wing politicians.
She lives in New York with her husband, artist Dennis Kardon. Their 19 year old daughter Julia is a freshman at University of Chicago.
